The best way to "see" what the vcode, is to visit www.usps.com and look up a few zipcodes.  Try your own Zipcode and see what shows up.

The vcode is just an abbreviation of what USPS web site displays.  In Summary:

NOTE: As of October 2005, The vCode has changed -- The USPS is no longer providing us the secondary information.

Code Meaning
D Default -- this is what most ZipCode databases provide you.
A Acceptable -- USPS considers the zipcode/city/state to be valid.
N Not Acceptable -- The opposite of above.
P Post office Box -- Self explanatory. 
U Unique --i.e.: a business has it's own zipcode
M Military
S Standard 
B Bad zipcode (ie: it is not used) (Contained in ZipOther)
